Chichen Itza, a well-known archeology site in the Yucatan Pennisula. Located approximately 2.5 hours from Playa Del Carmen. Roughly translated Chichen Itza means “at the mouth of the well of the Itza”. It is believed that during the period 900 to 1050 AD, Chichen Itza was the regional power center, controlling Northern and Eastern part of the state of Yucatan. Jade, pottery, along with Incense have been found during the exploration of this site.
Returning from Chichen Itza, a stop for lunch in the town of Valladolid. In 2012, Valladolid was named a Pueblo Magico, indicating the town is rich in culture, natural beauty or important to the history of the area. After lunch, a tour of the Museum, which contains various artifacts recovered from the area.
