Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve was formed in 1986, in 1987 Sian Ka’an was named one of the seven World Hertiage sites in the state of Quintana Roo. To date there have been over 200 projects completed regarding the conservation of the land, sea reefs, and wild life. The Muyil Archeological Site is also located here. This is one of the earliest and longest inhabited communities.
Upon arrival we will tour the Muyil site . Muyil is located along a trade route on the Caribbean once accessible via a series of canals. Among the most commonly traded goods were Jade, obsidian, chocolate, honey, feathers, chewing gum, and salt. During our brief visit, you will see the largest structure along this Coastal región.
After a local lunch our next adventure begins. A tour by boat of the lagoon, a short stop to examine an archeological area. Onwards to enjoy a “lazy river” type float through the reserve. Look for various birds, flowers yet watch out for the tree roots!
